After more than sixteen years at the helm, we have handed over the Companion Support and the running of the Guest House to a new team, and Monika and Krisztina will be happy to deal with your enquiries.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support over the years and hope that our regular guests will continue to choose Seahorses when visiting Freshwater.
Brenda will still be very much involved in tending the gardens and Boris will continue to give studio art courses, so we will still be around Seahorses if you wish to say hello!
With warm wishes from Brenda & Boris
Basic details of this workshop are on the pdf poster below. Guy and Diana Minter have given printing courses a few times at Seahorses. Guy is now in his 80’s and has many years experience as an Art teacher. More recently Guy and Diana (his daughter) give weekly printing sessions to adults with learning disabilities at the Lantern Community near Ringwood. Seahorses Art Studio have once again invited them to give a course on the Sat 14th and Sun 15th February. As before, a soup and roll lunch will be offered as well as refreshments such as coffee and tea etc. All materials will be covered in the overall course cost. If anyone wishes to attend but has difficulty covering the cost please feel free to have a chat to Boris. This course will not be subsidised by any grant unfortunately and we will have to cover the transport, meals and accommodation for both tutors. The last sessions proved very enjoyable , both socially and from an inspirational point of view. Those with more experience are welcome to bring their own tools and materials or just simply ideas!. Guy has said he will not be covering woodcuts but MDF can be used as a substitute for lino. Some people may wish to print some Easter cards using images of birds, eggs and flowers etc As numbers will be limited please remember to contact Boris to guarantee a place (email@example.com)

Saturday 2nd August at Seahorses – an outdoor evening of short films and videos from around the world + barbecue.
BBQ starts at 7 PM and the Films round 8.30pm
Date: 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st July 2014.
Time: 10AM – 4 PM.
The Acrylic Course will take place over three Saturday afternoons and should be suitable for absolute beginners and for those who wish to further their experience of this medium. It would be possible to attend just one or two of the afternoons but it would be more advantageous to attend all the the three sessions. We will begin by observing a photo of the local landscape and going through all the stages of building up a painting layer by layer. At each stage we will pause and discuss together various options and choices before continuing on our journey. We will have the opportunity to learn about pencil sketching, layering, colour contrasts and harmonies and individual style etc. Acrylic paints are very versatile medium, able to create delicate watercolour-like washes or thick impasto texture rather like oil paints. In three sessions we should have a good experience of its possibilities and hopefully a painting to take away! Seahorses Art Studio will supply a canvas board, paints, palette, pencils and brushes but if you wish to bring your own materials please feel free to do so. We will also supply tea/coffee/ biscuits. Space is limited so there will have to be a limited number accepted on a first come first serve basis. Payment can be made by cheque ( to ‘Seahorses’), a BACS transfer ( we can give our bank details), by credit card ( over the phone) or by cash. If you have any disability or any other special needs please let me know beforehand to make sure we can be as helpful as possible.
Mulled wine! Mince-pies! Lots of arty goodies and cards to buy!
Sadly it’s been and gone. A thank you note, to all who came, is up on Facebook. Take a look through the link under the poster.
Proceeds went to fixing the art studio roof so future projects can continue unhindered.
